Stussy & Xaime Hernandez Collabo

Photobucket

Stussy has enlisted the help of Xaime Hernandez for their latest artist/team project. Taken from Hernandez’s historical affairs with Rock and Roll as well as classic horror flicks, the shirts show a sense of style very similar to a classic comic strip. The entire series of shirts should be in Stussy accounts very soon.

R.I.P. ROC RAIDA!!!

Photobucket

In another terrible loss for the hip-hop community, Grand Master Roc Raida (real name: Anthony Williams) of the X-Ecutioners passed away on Saturday due to complications from a mixed-martial-arts accident, according to a statement released by his family. Raida had a two-decade career which skyrocketed in 1995 when he won the DMC World DJ Championship. He released seven solo albums along with several LPs with his famed crew, the X-Ecutioners. Over the last few years, Raida had been Busta Rhymes' live DJ, where his showmanship skills were a perfect marriage for Busta and Spliff Starr's energetic stage antics.

A statement released by Raida's family released over the weekend reads: "Anthony Williams p/k to the world as the Legendary Grand Master Roc Raida has passed away unexpectedly today, September 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife, three lovely daughters, mother and friends. Raida was recently in a mixed-martial-arts accident, something that he has been practicing for several years. Although he had undergone two surgeries with great success, was released to an inpatient physical therapy facility and was in great spirits the past few days, this morning he started to have complications and passed. The family asks for privacy at this time."

Busta Rhymes wrote a series of messages about Raida on his Twitter account.

"I am sorry to say that on this day at 2:05, Sept 19th we lost another incredible life ... DJ Roc Raida died today. My personal DJ is gone ..." Rhymes wrote. "I just wanna thank everyone for your love and support and you prayers ... We will never let your name die Roc ... We love u and will forever miss u ... RIP.

"I never met a more humble man in the industry," he continued. "So unbelievably talented and most importantly such beautiful spirit. I love you my brother. I will never let your name die DJ Roc Raida! We love you, we miss you and we'll never stop reppin' you!"

At press time, Busta's most recent tweets, published Monday morning, read: "I woke up this morning and realized how proud of this man's life I really am ... he can continue to smile down on us ... R.I.P. eternally, from your Flipmode Family."

Jordan L-Style

Photobucket

Jordan has begun distributing their new L’Style silhouette to select Jordan accounts. The lifestyle sneaker takes on a more sophisticated approach, which has become a recurring factor in a wealth of Jordan releases throughout the past few years. The kicks combine a premium leather upper with slight perforated details and dual-strap Velcro system, replacing traditional laces.

When the Money Goes...

Here's the latest single from the homie Loso, featuring Jigga Jay-Z.
This is like my favorite song out right now.

Adidas Five-Two 3 Drawings Pack

Photobucket

The Drawings Pack was inspired by using different artistic styles to re-interpret the characteristics of each classic silhouette. The pack explores the way that various artistic techniques can be utilised to create varied and highly differentiated, stylistic looks. Different techniques explored within the pack include ink, print, crosshatching and silver etching. Familiar footwear with a left field revision, these are a fearless shock-to-the-system that celebrates these definitive creations perfectly.

Photobucket

Superstar Track Top
This version of the Superstar track top, one of the most distinctive Adidas heritage apparel pieces, coordinates perfectly with the Drawings pack’s ‘illustrated’ Samba, in off-white with printed cross-hatch style imagery rendered in an intricate print on the sleeves and side panels. Completed with a hand-drawn effect Trefoil on the chest, it works perfectly alongside the corresponding footwear or as a stylish standalone everyday wear.

Photobucket

Superstar
The Superstar Vintage needs little introduction, still amassing appeal after nearly 40 years, and this slim, smoother shelled, low-profile favourite carries a fragmented silver etching effect on a matt-effect leather, illustrating, rather than stitching the 3-Stripes for a more streamlined appearance, and distressing the legendary ‘SUPERSTAR’ lettering.

Photobucket

Nizza
Since its 70s introduction, the Nizza has crossed cultures, reflecting ensuing eras and absorbing a plethora of legendary looks. For this mid-cut, vulcanized addition to the pack, the familiar canvas upper becomes an artist’s canvas of bold ‘pop art’, depicting each panel and 3-Stripes in strong shades, with corresponding metal eyelets, red foxing and an appropriately illustrated sock liner.

Photobucket

Stan Smith
Intelligently bridging the gap between the Stan Smith Vintage’s much-loved minimalism and heavy detailing, a subtle mix of black and brown on the upper is complemented by a handicraft style, multicoloured embroidery around the trademark perforations and a white paint effect print on the stitching and eyelets to exaggerate this element, making for a distinctive reinterpretation of this bestseller.

Photobucket

Forum
The most recent design in the five-two 3 range gets stripped down to bare basics without any compromise, with a pared-down white upper, decorated with a black brushstroke look that incorporates every last detail of this hi-top early 80’s court titan. Even the toe box perforations and sock liner are re-applied for a look that marries abstraction with timeless technical basketball prowess.

NEW BAPES!!!

Photobucket

One sneaker brand that yuou don't see as much of in the streets these days is A Bathing Ape (BAPE). 7 years ago, BAPES were all the rage and you could catch anyone from Jay-Z to the cashier at your local bodega rocking a pair of rainbow/patent leather BAPE sneakers. As what happens with any trend, the US BAPE phenomenon begin to fade out around 2006/2007 for the latecomers. The funny thing about it is BAPE has been around for a good 15 years or so and was doing numbers in the far east and Europe waaaaaaaay before the US got up on game. All that being said, BAPE is dropping some new flavors of their flagship sneaker (the Bapesta) this fall. The new editions feature some nice F/W colorways sans the patent leather. Mr. MA$ just might have to hit the BAPE store in Money Making and scoop up one of these colorways, cuz their looking fresh!!!

More from Rio

Two things that really stood out to me while in Brasil...(other than the gorgeous females) were a little food stand called Habib's and a club called HELP.

Photobucket

Now, what's so ill about Habib's you may ask???
It's really a rather plain food stand that serves chicken, burgers & fries and alcohol. What struck me is that the spot is actually called Habib's and that the logo is a very stereotypical image of an East Indian man. They would never let you get away with a spot like this in the US.

Photobucket

To all my peoples out there who have already been to Rio, you should already know what's good with club HELP. To all my peoples out there who haven't been to Rio...you better make it to HELP before it closes.

Richard Haines: "What I Saw Today"

Having worked for big names such as Calvin Klein, Bill Blass, Perry Ellis, and Sean Combs, Richard Haines looked to set himself apart from the pack as he put to work his sketching talents. His approach to self-marketing his talents as a fashion designer (albeit with classic training in fine hart) has seen him replicate the styles of many of the people he comes in contact with on the daily in New York in hopes of showcasing his creative side.

In an interview with The Malcom, Richard Haines touches on his work in addition to getting some insights into his reasoning behind the launch of WHAT I SAW TODAY, his online journal involving his interactions.

The Seventh Seal is Coming

Photobucket

Oddly enough last week I was engaged in a debate about rap music (something I usually try to avoid) with a friend of mine. Of the numerous absurdities my friend proclaimed about who are the best rappers alive today the worst of the worst was when said friend tried to tell me that out of Eric B and Rakim's legendary catalog of classic material only 20% of said material was "hot".

Needless to say my friendship was almost instantly terminated because it took every ounce of self control I had to prevent me from smacking the shit outta my friend for uttering such blasphemous tomfoolery.

There’s only a handful of artists whose influence impacted the development and progression of the Hip Hop art form dating back to its roots (Rakim being one of the special few), so it’s always important to pay respect.

Rakim is back with a new single entitled, “Holy Are You.” This will be the lead single from his highly anticipated album The Seventh Seal set to release early Fall 2009.

The album is said to be a contemporary observation of the Hip Hop culture he helped define, it’s been a long time coming so hang tight.

In the meantime, check out the track!
